I don't do 'best' anything. It's subjective.

However, there are no other even remotely positive threads on here, and I can't be arsed making one, since all I want to say is -

'Knowing' is amazing. The Nic Cage movie. If you don't like it, you're pretty much silly.

Nic Cage is awesome. Shut it. It's a sci-fi movie.

OK. I'll watch it. But be warned: if I do not like it, I'll be posting as such here, in a slightly cynical fashion.

If you don't like it, your opinion is immediately rendered void.

For what it's worth, it's got my brother's seal of approval, and anyone who knows him should know he's pretty much always right.

Well now, that's not entirely true, is it?

As far as I'm concerned, it is. "Pretty much always" = "the vast majority of the time" and the vast majority of the time, people concur with his opinions being valid, even if said people don't always share the exact same opinion.

Okay - it was on the telly last night - The Princess Bride.

Vizzini: HE DIDN'T FALL? INCONCEIVABLE.
Inigo Montoya: You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Inigo Montoya: You seem a decent fellow. I hate to kill you.
Man in Black: You seem a decent fellow. I hate to die.

Count Rugen: Are you coming down into the pit? Wesley's got his strength back. I'm starting him on the machine tonight.
Prince Humperdinck: [sincerely] Tyrone, you know how much I love watching you work, but I've got my country's 500th anniversary to plan, my wedding to arrange, my wife to murder and Guilder to frame for it; I'm swamped.
Count Rugen: Get some rest. If you haven't got your health, then you haven't got anything.

Buttercup: You mock my pain.
Man in Black: Life is pain, Highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something.

Again, not the best movie ever, but as indie B-movies go: Smoke Signals is worth watching. It's like Elizabethtown with Native American Indians. Only there's no romance and stuff, it's just philosophical 'who am I and who was my father?' forgiveness crap. But if you ever had issues with your family or father, alienation or resentment, etc, it sorta embodies that sorta conflict, in the form of a dude only learning about his father after the man is dead. It has an epic speech at the end about what creates those conflicts, why we maintain them, and if they are removed, what is left?

It's based on a novel (or story, can't remember) called 'The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight In Heaven', by the same guy who actually directed the movie, I believe. If anyone can track it down and send me a copy, I will love you forever.

Well, for a start, the worst time to watch Knowing is around midnight on October 18/19 2009. Which is when I watched it. The one day I probably shouldn't have. Thanks for warning me about that.

Secondly, it's not a bad movie. It's not great either, but it's a lot better than I was expecting. It has lots of car chases and explosions and so on, and everyone dies at the end, so that's always good.

The explosion scenes are brilliantly done. And yeah, way to spoil the movie.

Oh whoops. I thought you saw the whole thing. Well, it doesn't matter. Everyone dies at the end of Hamlet too.

I have seen it, all of it, but it's been a while. I was referring to spoiling it for anyone else who reads it.

I assume the date has some relevance in the movie - is it the date the world blows up? Coz I don't see how watching it on that date makes it any different to watching it any other day - the world wasn't actually going to blow up.
